General questions:

1. What dosage forms are available to prescribe?
Most medications can be compounded into a different dosage form than the manufactured product. We can compound transdermal creams, suspensions, sublingual drops, troches and rapid dissolve tablets. We also compound ointments, suppositories, eye drops, injectables, hormone pellets, and capsules. Call and ask if we can compound the medication you would like to prescribe into a dosage form that best suits your patient.

2. Why should I prescribe a compound versus a manufactured product?
Compounded medications offer a unique advantage over manufactured products because they are so customizable. Some medications are not easily absorbed in the GI-tract and would achieve better absorption topically or sublingually. Or perhaps you have a patient who won’t take their medication because they cannot swallow a large pill. Compounding can solve that problem and increase patient adherence by allowing you to prescribe the medication in a liquid form that is easy for the patient to take.

3. What kinds of safeguards does Solutions Pharmacy have in place to ensure the safety of sterile products compounded?
Solutions Pharmacy utilizes a third party testing company called DynaLabs. From their

website: “DYNALABS, located in St. Louis, Missouri, is an analytical testing lab that tests pharmaceuticals (sterile and non-sterile dosage forms) for pharmacies (retail – industrial – hospital) and pharmaceutical drug companies in the United States, Canada and Australia.” Please visit their website http://www.dynalabs.us/content/index.shtml for more information.
